Location and Surroundings
Fiskardo ,also written and as Fiscardo , is located in the Northern part of Kefalonia in Erissos province. It is surrounded by dense forests of cypress trees and wild oak that reach down to the crystal clear sea water.
When you visit Fiscardo you can understand why this picturesque fishing village has become a "compulsory" stop for the yachting people sailing the Ionian. It preserves the old Venetian architecture blended it in the green and blue of the forests and the sea, while offering to its visitors a variety of good restaurants, shops and cafes to relax and enjoy the calm environment.
Fiskardo is protected by the Greek government in order to conserve its Venetian architecture. It preserves its picturesque character with the Venetian style houses, having defied the great earthquake of 1953 , posing calmly around the harbour.
During Autumn and Spring, the area is quiet, ideal for nature lovers and a great time to go fishing, trekking and diving.Bellow you can find a map and links with more detailed information of activities that you can do during your stay.
In the summer time the quiet village is transformed into a cosmopolitan port with yachts and sailing boats, while the villas for rent and hotels in the surrounding area accommodate guests that blend with the locals in the restaurants and bars of the port.
There are many restaurants, cafes, bars, souvenir and clothes shops, boat rental facilities, scuba diving center in Fiskardo.
There are 2 scuba diving schools both very experienced and professional qualified divers that offer special programs for children as well as diving for more experienced divers wanting to enjoy the crystal clear waters that offer visibility of often more than 40 meters.
You can also rent a sailing boat for the day in the harbour if you enjoy sailing in the interesting waters near Fiskardo, from where you can reach Ithaka, Lefkada, Meganisi, Skorpios and other small islands.
The area is quiet and ideal for nature lovers, there are several hiking trails that start from here. Maps of the paths are provided and below.
The Venetian Lighthouse that was renovated last year thanks to the contribution of a private individual Fiskardo lover and can be admired from Martini waterfront suites. It can be reached on foot, a beautiful walk on the other side of the harbor.
Foki beach is a 5 minutes stroll away from our villas, while other beautiful beaches like Emplisi , Dafnoudi, Alaties, Agia Ieroussalim beach (Jerusalem beach) and Kimilia are just a few km away and apart from Foki that is close the others can be reached by car.
A little further away you can enjoy Agia Sophia, Myrtos beach and Antisamos beach wfich are a 20, 30 and 45 minutes away respectively.
Agia Sophia is mostly know amongst locals and very little known beach while Myrtos is a very famous and Antisamos is an organised beach with beach bars and water sports.
But words (especially mine !) are poor descriptions of the nature of the place , so better watch the videos of our
Youtube Channel: Fiskardo, Kefalonia videos with many videos of landscape and life in the area of FisKardo and the whole island.
On the night of the 17th of September 2020 , Fiscardo and the rest of Kefalonia has been hit by an unprecedented storm named Ianos
that lasted 12 hours and the village was flooded and some shops were damaged and stopped operation for the year. We had some damages in the pergolas and the balcony railings while many trees were taken down in the garden. The damages have been restored and we took the opportunity to make some improvements in the parking area.
Foki beach had been hit particularly hard by the storm as you can see in this link: The great damage of Foki beach
and it is still far from its pre storm condition:
